Musculo-skeletal problems in infants can be difficult to identify, but a careful treatment with Richard can help with your baby’s wind, colic, earache, sleep difficulties, or recurrent chest infections, and to settle irritable babies.

Richard’s Treatment Style

Pressure point massage and release of trigger points

This very quickly and effectively releases the muscular component of the injured tissues, generating a sense of well-being and relaxation.

This is applied to different levels of the spine and at different depths, depending on the patient. Some very tight-jointed people require quite some force to mobilise their joints effectively, while the very young, the supple and the elderly require only the lightest of adjustments to be effective.

Cranial Osteopathy

This is a very gentle technique applied to the head and sacrum (or tailbone), aiming to mobilise the injured tissues so gently that the body’s defences are not activated. It is used on most of our patients to settle their tissues into a state of relaxation at the end of the treatment, and is the treatment of choice for infants and young children.

Myofascial release techniques

This is also a very gentle part of the treatment applied to most patients, aiming to gently mobilise and release any tension or strain patterns held in the body that have not fully released with other aspects of the treatment.

Most patients are also given advice on good posture and movement habits, simple painkillers and anti-inflammatories, on staying active and at work, and on exercise appropriate to their age, injury and enjoyment.

What to expect in your appointment

Treatment Style

Most patients will be treated with a combination of pressure point massage, manipulation and subtle myofascial release techniques for musculo-skeletal injuries, especially of the spine.

If you have a preference for a particular style of treatment however, please let Richard know. It is important to find the approach that best suits your needs and comfort while fixing the problem as quickly and thoroughly as possible.

Clothing & Accompanying People

All patients are treated fully clothed, but we do ask you to remove bulky outer layers such as jackets, jumpers, scarves and hoodies.

Family and friends are more than welcome to sit in on treatment if you choose, or relax in the waiting room. It is preferable that children under the age of 16 who are attending for treatment are accompanied by their parent or other caregiver.

Treatment Reactions

Sometimes things get worse before they get better. This is a normal response to treatment and can involve a temporary increase in pain for 24 – 48 hours.

Whilst most of the patients Richard treats start to get better straight away, a small percentage experience some degree of reaction, usually after the first treatment. Most often these symptoms disappear after the next treatment or within 48 hours.

If you are unhappy in any way with any aspect of your visit to us, please let us know. Your complaint will be well received and helps us to achieve a better quality of service.
